Density HW

7H: complete all problems
8th grade: complete 1-4

SHOW THE SET UP OF EACH PROBLEM. USE A CALCULATOR TO SOLVE. ROUND TO THE NEAREST 10th or 0.1
Density = Mass / Volume

FIND THE DENSITY:
1.  59.5 grams of wood with a volume of 85 cm3
2.  150 cm3 of plastic with a mass of 90 grams
3.  68 grams of mercury with a volume of 5cm3
4.  55cm3 of water with a mass of 66 grams

Mass = Density x Volume

 FIND THE MASS:
5.  900 cm3 of copper, which has a density of 8.8 g / cm3
6.  333 mL of corn oil, which has a density of 0.9g / cm3
7.  750 cm3 of rubber, which has a density of 1.3 g / cm3
8.  125 cm3 of tar, which has a density of 1.02 g / cm3

Extra Credit:
1.  The density of pine is generally about 0.5 g/cm3.  What is the mass of a 800 cm3 piece of pine?
2.  What is the volume of 325 g of metal with a density of 9.0 g/cm3?
3.  Diamonds have a density of 3.5 g/cm3.  How big is a diamond that has a mass of 0.10 g?

4.  A graduated cylinder is filled with water to a level of 40.0 cm3.  When a piece of copper is lowered into the cylinder, the water level rises to 63.4 cm3.  Find the volume of the copper sample.  If the density of the copper is 8.9 g/cm3, what is its mass?
